Customer Response

The Geddes Group have built up a large customer base over the years and this has grown largely due to the Group's willingness to facilitate the customer requirements. These requirements may vary from a rapid response to plant hire, out of ours working, provision of unusual items of equipment (custom made if necessary) and also supply of materials to specification and to suit the customers needs.

The picture shown represents a specific, but not entirely unusual, supply requirement. The construction of the British Gas pipeline from St Fergus to Bishop Auckland, in County Durham, involved the dredging of a trench across the Tay estuary. Once the trench was excavated, the pipelinr laid and trench backfilled there was a requirment to provide stone protection to the pipeline

The stone protection was positioned using precision dumping methods from a bottom-dump barge (as shown). Dumping took place continually on a 24 hour cycle over a period of 2 months and during that time the Geddes Group supplied the required 164,000 tonnes of 150mm to 200mm stone. The stone was supplied from the Group quarries, hauled by Group transport and then stockpiled and re-loaded using group plant working hours to match the customer requirements
